Incan Gold - Review \u0026 Overview with The Cardboard Stacker

Incan Gold Review

The ruin card is revealed, displaying the artifact that might be discovered hidden in the tunnels. It is then shuffled into the deck.

One-by-one, cards are revealed and placed face-up, forming a path. A card will either be treasure, an artifact or a hazard. If it is treasure, the amount listed is divided evenly amongst the players, with any remainder being placed on the card.

The treasure can be a small amount — one or two gems — or a mother lode consisting of over a dozen gems.

If it is an artifact, it is placed on the path. If it is a hazard … well, more on that in a bit. After each card is revealed and placed … and any treasures divided … all players must decide whether they are going to remain in the ruin or dash for the exit, returning to their camp.

They do this by simultaneously revealing either a torch stay or camp run card. Players who run take the gems they have gained, splitting any gems that were left on the cards along the path.

If only one player runs, he gets it all, including any artifact card s on the path. Those who opt to remain in the tunnel continue on the journey.

What about those hazards? There are five types of perils — spiders, snakes, mummies, etc. When the first hazard of a particular type is revealed, nothing happens, and the hazard card is added to the path.

However, when the second hazard of a particular type is revealed, disaster strikes. All players remaining in the ruin lose all treasures they have collected from that location and the round ends.

Only those who had previously run from the ruin get to keep the treasures they collected. This second hazard card is removed from the game, reducing the odds of that particular hazard appearing again.

Play continues in the fashion for each of the five ruins. After all ruins have been explored, players tally the value of all gems and artifacts in their camps.

The first three artifacts collected are worth five points apiece, while the remaining two are worth ten points apiece.

Their appearance certainly makes dashing from a ruin quite attractive. Substance: 4 Meaty A short, tense filler game where you explore an Incan temple, now part of the excellent series of Gryphon Game fillers.

Shannon Appelcline has written reviews , with average style of 4. The reviewer's next review is of Rock! Incan Gold was previously published by Sunriver Games, but is just now being rereleased in a somewhat new edition by Gryphon Games.

Thus, I've updated my old review to account for the newest printing. The Cards: The 56 cards serve quite a few purposes. There's five cards forming temple "gameboard" which is just a game timer , a pair of option cards for each of eight players, thirty quest cards which are what you actually discover , and five artifact cards.

They're all printed on sturdy linen-textured cardstock. There's a variety of different art depicting hazards and treasures that varies from fair to good.

The Tents: The rules call these "cards", and they are indeed printed on similar, linen-textured cardstock, but these are actually three-d bits forming a tiny camping tent.

The back flap has been glued together, so that you can stand your tent up and see into without the other players being able to.

The Loot: plastic stones, used to mark treasures won over the course of the game. The reviewer's next review is of Powershot Soccer.

Review Summary. This review has been read times. Product Summary. Review of Incan Gold. Gamers will like it as a nice, quick-paced and exciting alternative to more thoughtful, drawn-out strategy games.

Families will enjoy its simple rules, fun theme, and light-thinking turn-to-turn excitement. Thus, it makes a great party game.

In the end, this game is downright great, and I highly recommend it. Thanks for the review. My one big beef with the game that prevents it from being the perfect push-your-luck game is the end game stuff which, admittedly, is often the hardest part of a game.

Actually, I had never considered that there was a problem with the end game. I agree that if you are winning towards the end, you are in a better position than if you are losing but is that really a bad thing?

If you want to leave early you can pad your score and make the other players venture far into the ruins to play catch up.

Alternatively you can stay in the dungeon to make sure everyone goes in too. But the problem with the latter strategy is that in my experience at least there is always at least 1 and usually 2 other players that are relatively close to you score-wise.

If the leader keeps going in and the second-place person pulls out they can pick up the leftovers, which will typically be enough to win.

I guess the issue would be more problematic with smaller numbers of players. But with larger groups, the winner is not in as good as a position as he would often like.

I suppose that losing at the end of the game can limit your options — in fact you generally just have to go for it! I have even taught my 6 year old nephew to play.

The game consists of five rounds. Each player has two cards, one shows you exploring and the other returning to your tent. At the beginning of the round everyone shows their card at once.

If you decide to venture on a card is flipped and added next to the last card flipped. If the card shows a treasure value that value is divided evenly among all the players that decided to venture on.

If a hazard is flipped over no treasure is collected by those who venture forth. There are five types of hazards snakes, spiders, a mummy, fire and a collapse.
